Chants of the Athonite Vigil
A Byzantine Music Concert
2 October 2025, 7:30 PM
The concert will present ancient and mystical chants of the Vigils of Mount Athos, featuring works by renowned Athonite monks such as Ioasaf Dionysiatis, masterpieces of Byzantine music by composers including Petros Bereketis, and traditional Athonite chants authentically interpreted by the distinguished Greek protopsaltis Christos Chalkias. The programme also presents contemporary arrangements of Byzantine music performed by the Philokallia Ensemble.

Folk Sacred Music from Crete

Traditionally, one of the festival’s concerts is dedicated to folk sacred music from different regions of the former Byzantine Empire (Asia Minor, Cyprus, Thrace, Constantinople, etc.). This year, we invite you to experience the rich musical heritage of Crete, presented by the authentic ensemble Eran. The program will include traditional religious music, love songs, and modal improvisations.

Sacred Echoes from Ukraine
A Concert of Traditional Ukrainian Sacred Songs

Traditional Ukrainian polyphonic songs with sacred themes, alongside folk songs where God and love are woven into everyday village life. Performed by the ensemble Milánosz and Ukrainian singer Liuba Plavska, acclaimed for presenting some of the finest interpretations of Ukrainian folk music in our country. The vocal ensemble Milánosz performs Ukrainian and other Slavic folklore using the so-called “white voice” technique, and, as Rita Lyons Kindlerová wrote in 2015, “it can be said without exaggeration that this is the finest performance of Ukrainian folk songs in our country.”
